Iceland Volcano creating delivery problems for Nokia and Sony Ericsson
The Icelandic Volcano has caused air traffic chaos but it does not end here. The volcano has not only affected the flights but it has created problems for businesses too. As we all know that the flight transport in Europe has been severely disrupted since last week it has caused some delivery problems for Nokia and Sony Ericsson cell phone makers.
Finnish Nokia handset maker which is one of the top brands in the cell phone industry is facing delivery problems, its officials said. It ships its handsets to Europe through trucks, ships and by air. Due to the volcano eruption incident the air delivery of Nokia cell phones has been affected. This has create a little problem for Nokia phone maker because other logistics are available to provide a supportive hand but they fear that if this continues for a longer duration Nokia handset makers will be out of material as they won’t be getting any for further manufactures.
Same is the case with Sony Ericsson which is a join venture of L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. and Japan’s Sony Corp. It also expects some of its deliveries to get delayed due to this incident. According to the statistics Sony Ericsson shipped 10.5 million mobile phones during the first quarter of 2010 and Nokia reported to ship more than 126 million mobile phones in the last quarter of 2009. With both the companies having such huge shipments across different borders the air traffic shut down is a real big concern.
Talking to the Dow Jones newswires the spokesperson of both the companies said that they are trying to monitor the situation and are having discussions with the logistics partners to use alternative ways of delivering the products. Let us just hope that the Volcano eruption issue gets resolved quickly because it is not only affecting the businesses but it could be dangerous for the human health too.
