According to some recent reports all the five cellular mobile operating companies in Pakistan namely Mobilink, Jazz, Warid, Telenor and Zong have signed a memorandum of understanding with PTA on infrastructure sharing.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has signed this memorandum of understanding with all the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMO’s) because it wants to increase the overall industry lease ration to a specific mark and to increase the pace of infrastructure sharing among all the cell phone operators in the country. All the parties associated to this MoU expect it to bring various benefits for the telecom industry, for the customers and for the cellular companies as well.

All the CMO’s have agreed to follow a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the technical and commercial consideration. PTA, within its jurisdictions will facilitate the whole process of infrastructure sharing. According to the MoU all the telecom industry players in Pakistan are hoped to make commercial arrangements powerful and increase the overall industry lease ration to 1.5 within the next 3 years with untiring collective efforts.

Well it really looks interesting that all the cellular mobile operators of Pakistan have come to a single platform to support the industry. I wonder if they all can also join hands together to bring 3G network services in Pakistan. If it happens then the telecom industry of Pakistan will definitely reach new height. But so far it looks like nothing such is going to happen because the cost of the 3G spectrum is really high and the cellular mobile operating companies fear that they won’t be able to recover their investment. Whatever the reason is the truth is that the Pakistani mobile phone users are still waiting for the 3G services.
