Pakistan stands among the countries where crime rate is really high. The reason for high rate in crime is the economic condition and low enforcement of law and order. Mobile phone snatching stands among the top most crimes in Pakistan. According to an official report more than eighty thousand mobile phones were snatched during the last year. But we all know that the actual number would be way higher than that.

It is not only the responsibility of the Government but it is the responsibility of the nation too in stopping this crime. How can we stop mobile phone snatching in Pakistan? Well you can do it easily by getting your cell phone blocked. When it is blocked all the network providers in Pakistan will blacklist that cell phone. How can you block your mobile phone? You can do it by calling Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Police or Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). All you need to do is to make a call, give them the required details along with the unique IMEI number of your handset. The IMEI number could be found at the back of your mobile phone under the battery or on the warrantee card. This number is unique for every mobile phone and the GSM networks use it for the identification of the device. CPLC or PTA will block the mobile phone and it will be of no use for anyone.

People in Pakistan generally don’t do this when their mobile phone is being snatched. They think that they won’t get their mobile phone back by doing so. No doubt they are correct but doing this can reduce the mobile phone snatching rate. Just imagine if everybody starts blocking their stolen mobile phones then the criminals will think that it is useless to steal them.

What we need to do is to see the long term affects of this step. Moreover, a little cooperation is needed from the mobile phone retailer. They should stop illegal unblocking of mobile phones and report to the Police if anybody approaches them to get the handset unblocked.
